I consider myself an avid user of technology. I feel as if I wouldn't be able to survive without the different forms of technology that are available. From the moment I wake up to the alarm set on my IPhone til the time I fall asleep listening to my favorite app that plays nature sounds for relaxation, technology proves to be a important part of my life. As a Criminal Justice major, much of my interest involves the criminal justice system and crime overall. Also, as an employee of the federal government working for the Department of Homeland Security, I rely much on technology such as computers and special databases in order to find and get the information I need in order to get my job done, as well as email to communicate with hundreds of co workers within the agency.
Technology and the media play an integral role in crime. Much of the public's knowledge of crime and justice is derived from mass media outles. As previously discussed in my Journalism 150 lecture, there are eight mass media businesses.Within these different types of industries, you can easily seek information regarding the Criminal Justice system whether it may be through books, newspapers, television, movies, and most easily accessible, the web. For example, when the news broke out with the breaking story of Osama Bin Laden’s death, within minutes I saw it on Facebook, CNN news online, and Fox5 channel news on television. The next morning, the big story was plastered on every front page of all newspapers. Movies are another example of how the media and crime are intertwined. Many popular Hollywood hit movies have storylines that have a wide based variety of different types of crime, for example, movies such as Wanted, Fast & the Furious, the Dark Knight and the Lincoln Lawyer.
This is my first attempt at blogging and I hope you all will enjoy a look into my perspective on Mass Comunication and its impact on well, basicially everything.
It is awesome that you have a job with the Department of Homeland Security, I never would have thought a college student could hold a job like that. Your connections between your interests and technology were spot on and could not have been said any better. What kinds of websites do you regularly use?
